What Music Conveys

by Ramya Kumar and Vivian Lim

dancing to the movement of a nursery rhyme

letting the enjoyments of sound fulfill our time

singing along to whatever is preached

what the music of childhood conveys is very unique

as we shift towards our juvenile years

becoming more attached to what we hear

understanding the lyrics of an emotional mess

what the music of adolescents convey is great, nonetheless

the connection with music loses its existence

as we are overwhelmed with our child in need of assistance

not to listen for its feelings but to pass the hour

what the music of adulthood conveys has very much lost its power

the tunes that are hummed reflect our lives

like old opened books that are, once again, revived

each song lingers as a memory in our mind

what the music of elders convey is a fruitful find
